PRIMARY CARE

 

Primary Care often serves as an undiagnosed patient’s first point of entry into the Western Healthcare System followed by continued care. The Scope of Practice of a Primary Care Physician includes: health promotion, disease prevention, health maintenance, counseling, patient education as well as the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic illnesses.

 

ORIENTAL MEDICINE

 

Oriental Medicine (also known as Traditional Chinese Medicine) is an ancient Eastern Healthcare System that takes a deep understanding of the laws and patterns of nature and applies them to holistically preventing, diagnosing and treating disease in the human body. The Scope of Practice of a Doctor of Oriental Medicine includes: Acupuncture, Holistic Nutrition Therapy, Medical Qigong, Herbal Medicine, Tui Na Massage Therapy, Cupping, Moxibustion, Acupressure and Tai Chi.

 

HOLISTIC NUTRITION THERAPY

 

Holistic Nutrition Therapy (also known as Eastern Nutrition) is one of the main branches of Oriental Medicine and focuses on the energetic components of food as opposed to Western Nutrition’s focus on a food’s material makeup.  

Eastern Nutrition is a holistic nutritional system that:

   ● Uses food a medicine;

   ● Promotes a healthy and harmonious digestive system;

   ● Recommends diets based on an individual’s constitution and health concerns;

   ● Categorizes food by its own constitution (temperature, nature and flavor); and

   ● Incorporates a 3-Dimensional (Social, Emotional and Physical) Wellness Plan that considers the whole person.

YOGA

Yoga is a therapeutic system of physical postures and breathing techniques which originated in ancient India. Yoga is considered a holistic approach to health and is classified by the National Institutes of Health as a form of Complementary and Alternative Medicine. The regular practice of yoga promotes strength, endurance, flexibility and facilitates characteristics of self-control, while cultivating a sense of calmness and well-being. The practice of yoga also produces a physiological state opposite to that of the flight-or-fight stress response and with that interruption in the stress response, a sense of balance and union between the mind and body can be achieved.

MEDICAL QIGONG

Medical Qigong is an ancient form of Chinese energetic medicine and is one of the main branches of Oriental Medicine.  Medical Qigong promotes health through the balancing of Qi (electromagnetic energy) which surrounds and pervades all living creatures.  The goal of Medical Qigong is to correct bio-energetic imbalances and blockages. This process enables the body to strengthen and regulate its internal organs, nervous system and immune system.

 

In China and more recently in the United States, Doctors of Oriental Medicine utilize Medical Qigong in hospitals and clinics to treat patients suffering from chronic pain, hormone imbalances and stress as well as disorders of the digestive, respiratory, cardiovascular and nervous systems.

TAI CHI

Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese therapeutic discipline that descended from Qigong. Tai Chi involves a series of slow, meditative body movements that were originally designed for self-defense and evolved into a graceful form of exercise. According to the Mayo Clinic, Tai Chi can be used to improve health by: decrease stress, anxiety and depression; increase energy and stamina; improve flexibility, balance and agility along with other health benefits.

MASSAGE THERAPY

 

Massage Therapy is the manipulation of body soft tissues (muscle, connective tissue, tendons and ligaments) to enhance a person's health and well-being.  A Licensed Massage Therapist  provides two fundamental categories of massage: Rehabilitative Massage and Relaxation Massage. Rehabilitative Massage (also referred to as Medical, Therapeutic, Clinical or Outcome-Based) is a targeted site-specific therapy with a defined anticipated goal or outcome.  Relaxation Massage is a smooth, gentle flowing therapy that provides general relaxation, relieves muscle tension, improves circulation and increases range of motion.

HOLISTIC DENTISTRY

Holistic Dentistry is an alternative approach to dentistry  where oral disease and structural dysfunction is treated as being interconnected to the overall health and well-being of the patient.  It focuses on using biocompatible (non-toxic) restorative materials, eliminating infections, and promoting optimal teeth / jaw / head / neck structural relationships.  A Holistic Dentist often works together with a wide variety of healthcare professionals promoting integrative healthcare.   As a rule, a Holistic Dentist will use the least invasive, least traumatic, and least toxic means of treatment.  True holistic dental care supports the body’s natural abilities of self-healing and regeneration.

ART AND MUSIC THERAPY

Art and/or Music therapy provide creative opportunities for patients to benefit from positive changes in mood, communication, relaxation, stress reduction, social interaction, memory recall, lower blood pressure, pain reduction and muscle tension.

MICROKINESITHERAPIE

Microkinesitherapie is a manual-therapy technique that is used to help the body defend and correct itself when suffering from traumatic, emotional, toxic, viral, microbial or environmental attacks.

REHABILITATION PILATES

Rehabilitation Pilates is a low-impact exercise regimen that used to help restore and return the body to normal function when recovering from injury or surgery, experiencing chronic pain, or when needed to improve mobility, strength, and balance. Rehabilitation Pilates focuses on the smaller support muscles of the abdomen and spine, as well as the muscles that surround and support most joints. Rehabilitation Pilates is provided in individual or in group sessions.

 

CHIROPRACTIC

Chiropractic is a form of medicine that deals with the relationship between the articulations of the skeleton and the nervous system as well as the role of this relationship plays in the restoration and maintenance of health. A Doctor of Chiropractic: uses physical, clinical and laboratory diagnostic procedures to ascertain the nature of a patient’s health condition; and then adjusts, manipulates and treats the spinal vertebrae, the sacrum, the ilia, the coccyx and other skeletal articulations that are interfering with the normal generation, transmission and expression of nerve impulse between the brain, organs and tissue of the body in order to restore normal flow of nerve impulse that produces  normal function and consequent health.

MARRIAGE AND FAMILY THERAPY

 

Marriage and Family Therapy is the use of counseling interventions and psychotherapeutic techniques for the purpose of evaluating, diagnosing, treating, preventing and modifying marital, family, and individual behavior, within the context of marital and family systems, including the context of marital formation and dissolution, A Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist may provide psychotherapy, hypnotherapy, sex therapy and substance abuse therapy.

MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING

 

Mental Health Counseling is the use of psychotherapeutic techniques for the purpose of evaluating, diagnosing, treating and preventing undesired behavior and enhancing mental health and human development and is based on the person-in-situation perspectives derived from research and theory in personality, family, group and organizational dynamics and development, career planning, cultural diversity, human growth and development, human sexuality, normal and abnormal behavior, psychopathology, psychotherapy, and rehabilitation. A Licensed Mental Health Counselor may provide psychotherapy, hypnotherapy, sex therapy and substance abuse therapy. 

ORGANIC FOOD MARKET

 

Organic Food Market is any market that sells Organic Food even though the quantity and variety of organic offerings vary.  Organic Food is food produced by methods that comply with the standards of organic farming. Standards vary worldwide, but organic farming, in general, features practices that cycle resources, promote ecological balance, and conserve biodiversity. Organizations regulating organic products usually restrict the use of artificial pesticides, man-made fertilizers, growth regulators as well as animal antibiotics and feed additives.  Generally, Organic Food is not processed using irradiation, industrial solvents, or synthetic food additives.

REHABILITATION CENTER

A Rehabilitation Center (as related to this Network) is a medical rehabilitation facility that provides outpatient services related to injury, disability and illness. The types of services offered may include: Doctors’ services; physical, occupational, and respiratory therapy, and speech-language pathology services; prosthetic and orthotic devices, including testing, fitting, and/or training in the use of these devices; social and psychological services if they relate to and are needed to carry out the rehabilitation treatment; nursing care provided by or under the supervision of a registered professional nurse; and supplies and durable medical equipment.

PHYSICAL THERAPY

Physical Therapy means the performance of physical therapy assessments and the treatment of any disability, injury, disease, or other health condition of human beings, or the prevention of such disability, injury, disease, or other condition of health, and rehabilitation as related thereto by the use of the physical, chemical, and other properties of air; electricity; exercise; massage; the use of radiant energy, including ultraviolet, visible, and infrared rays; ultrasound; water; the use of apparatus and equipment in the application of the foregoing or related thereto; the performance of tests of neuromuscular functions as an aid to the diagnosis or treatment of any human condition; or the performance of electromyography as an aid to the diagnosis of any human condition only upon compliance with the criteria set forth by the Board of Medicine.

A Vitamin and Supplement Shop is a commercial store that sells a wide variety of products including: vitamins, supplements, superfoods, herbs, natural remedies, protein, and products related to fitness, digestion, weight management, skin, natural beauty, home and lifestyle.

LABORATORY SERVICES

Laboratory Services is a laboratory where clinical pathology tests are carried out on clinical specimens to obtain information about the health of a patient to aid in diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.

INTEGRATIVE ENDOCRINOLOGY

Integrative Endocrinology is a branch of medicine that deals with the structure, function and disorders of the endocrine system (a system of glands and organ in the body that make hormones). These disorders include diabetes, growth disorders, infertility, low testosterone, obesity, hyperglycemia, hypoglycemia, and disorders of the thyroid, adrenal, and pituitary. An Integrative Endocrinologist offers a holistic approach to hormonal health.

INTEGRATIVE PSYCHIATRY

Integrative Psychiatry is a holistic approach that uses both conventional and complementary therapies in the treatment of psychiatric disorders. An Integrative Psychiatrist is trained in the use of conventional, nutritional/ functional/ orthomolecular medicine, and mind-body/energy medicine in the treatment of patients at all levels of being, to restore a state of optimal mental and physical health, as naturally and efficiently as possible.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

Occupational Therapy is a therapy based on engagement in meaningful activities of daily life (such as self-care skills, education, work, or social interaction) especially to enable or encourage participation in such activities despite impairments or limitations in physical or mental functioning.

ASSISTED LIVING

Assisted Living is a system of housing and limited care that is designed for senior citizens who need some assistance with daily activities but do not require skilled nursing care.

CONTINUING CARE RETIREMENT COMMUNITY

A Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) is a retirement community that offers in-house services for residents as they age, including independent living and the full continuum of care, assisted living, memory care and skilled care.
